End of the year expectations:
- Letter identification – both upper and lowercase
- Letter sounds
- Number recognition - 0-100+
- Counting numbers 1 to 115
- Writing their first name appropriately using upper and lowercase letters in D’Nealian print
- Children should know their full name, address, and phone number
- Children should able to put their thoughts and ideas down in both pictures and writing. Kindergarten writing and spelling is done by writing down only the letter sounds heard. Ex. Apple/apl; baby/babe. This builds confidence in knowing writing can be done any level even if you don’t know how to spell.
- Children should demonstrate responsibility as they independently complete classroom tasks.
- Children should be able to listen attentively for an extended period of time and follow multiple step directions.
