Rebecca Caudill
The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award is given
to the author whose book receives the most votes from young readers in Illinois. The
purposes of this award are to encourage students in grades 4-8 to read for personal
satisfaction, to develop a statewide awareness of outstanding literature for young people,
to promote a desire for literacy, and to encourage cooperation among Illinois agencies
providing educational and library service to young people.
The fourth and fifth grade students select and read titles from the list. In October, students are introduced to the books through booktalks provided by Mrs. Loughran, the LMC
Director. Most of the Rebecca Caudill books from the master list are
available for check out in the Fry LMC. Students are required to read or hear a minimum of three titles to be eligible to vote in February. The winning book will be announced in March.
More information about the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Book Award, and the current master list can be found at the program website: http://www.rebeccacaudill.org.
