LMC Birthday Book Program 🎂

Are you looking for a great way to honor your child’s birthday at school? Fry’s Library Media Center (LMC) has an idea for you! Donate a book in honor of your child’s birthday to Fry’s LMC. It helps build our library collection and also makes your child feel special!!

Here’s how it works: All you need to do to sign your child up for the FRY LMC Birthday Book Program is go to the Fry School Webstore in PushCoin and pay $15.00 for a hardcover book that your child will choose in the LMC during their birthday month. By doing this now, it helps us know how many children will be participating this year, so we can have enough fresh titles on our Birthday Book Cart that the children will select from. You will need your email address and password for PushCoin to complete the purchase.

Here is the link: https://store.ipsd.org/#!/products/Y355DABZSP Or search for Fry, LMC Birthday Books through the Pushcoin website at https://www.pushcoin.com/.

If you have more than one child at Fry, you will need to do this process more than once. The webstore for the Fry LMC Birthday Book program is only open through September for you to sign up.

At some time during the month of your child’s birthday, we will have him/her choose a book and we will take their picture with the book. A bookplate sticker with your child’s name and picture will be placed inside the front of the book. If your child’s birthday falls during June-October, we’ll have them choose on their half birthday month. Then your child will be the first one to check out his/her birthday book from the LMC, and once they return it, other children can check it out and enjoy it too!

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Loughran, Fry’s LMC Director (michelle_loughran@ipsd.org or 630-428-7400.) Thank you for considering this way to honor your child’s birthday and help the Fry LMC!

No E-Bikes or E-Scooters Allowed on School Property

This policy has been part of our school handbook for some time. However, this policy now extends throughout the district, as copied below from a recent district news update:

With an increasing number of students riding e-bikes and e-scooters to and from school, we are seeing a higher frequency of safety incidents on campus. While these devices may seem convenient, they present safety concerns for both riders and pedestrians, especially during busy arrival and dismissal times. For that reason, e-bikes and e-scooters are not permitted on school property.

We also want to make families aware of local regulations. E-bikes and e-scooters are not allowed on sidewalks and must follow the same traffic laws as bicycles. In most municipalities, Class 3 e-bikes require riders to be at least 16 years old, and state law prohibits operating low-speed e-scooters unless the rider is at least 18. Riders are required to use bike lanes or remain near the curb, and at night must have proper lights and reflectors.

We encourage parents to talk with their children about these rules and remind them to walk, ride traditional bicycles, or use other safe methods when traveling to and from school. If unsafe or illegal use is observed in the community, parents are encouraged to contact their local police department.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students and school safe.
